It is Well
2Ki 4:26 Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.
In this familiar story, we read about a woman who was great in faith. Her son had just died in her lap. No doubt it was a time of great turmoil in this mother's life, but yet we see a faith that is exhibited by her actions. She takes her son to the Man of God's room and lies him on his bed and then shuts the door.
Do you have a problem that is too big too handle? Has your faith died? Take your problem to God, lay it at his feet, THEN shut the door! Leave it at the altar, never to pick it up again, knowing that God can handle it better than you can.
Then we see, that she goes to the Man of God, Elisha. As she is driving to him, Elisha asks three heart searching questions.
1. How is it with you?
2. How is it with your spouse?
3. How is it with your child?
Time would not suffice, but each question demands an answer.
1. How is it with you?
The Shunammite woman had just lost her son. The one she had longed to have for so many years. Her gift from God. She even begged the prophet not to get her hopes up, least they be crushed, and now her son was dead, having died in her own lap.
How is it with you? If ever there was a time, a situation that warranted grief, it was now. Yet, we see her faith light up her darkest night, as she responds, IT IS WELL! God will work it out, God is blessing, my son may be dead but God will bring him back to life again. Faith speaks and as Hebrews tells us, Women received their dead back to life again. It is well!
How is it with you, friend? Can you respond as the Shunammite woman did? Can your faith that has been tried by fire still speak out loud and clear, It is well?
It can, when you do as she did, take your problem to God, and lay it at his feet, and then shut the door, knowing that God will work it all out. It is well.
- We will look at Question #2 in the next few days - God bless.
