"Are you willing to pay the price?"

Gen 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

In your hunger for God, what price are you willing to pay to experience His presence?
Let’s put it another way: What is your pursuit of God costing you? Because in case you didn’t know it, all biblical worship, all service to God, all encounters with God involve a sacrifice. In the Old Testament every time they met with God, they always brought a sacrifice. In the life of Abraham, he had several encounters with God and Abraham always stopped what he was doing and built an altar and sacrificed to God.

It was unknown in the Old Testament to approach God without some sacrifice. There was expense involved in entering His presence. Expense of money and expense of time.
It takes time to build an altar and lambs and bullocks came from their flock.

David said this in II Samuel 24:24, “Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. “
David understood that there’s a price tag involved in worship. He recognized the worth of the God he worshiped. And when you’re passionate about something, you are willing to pay the price.

So the question is this: Are you willing to pay the price to experience God’s presence in your life?

You see, it’s one thing to say you’re hungry for God and for His presence and to be asking for it; it’s another thing to be willing to sacrifice for it. It’s one thing to desire God when it costs you nothing, but another thing to desire God and to be willing to sacrifice that which you hold dear in order to experience God.

The Bible calls it a test.

Notice in the previous chapter that Abraham was enjoying a time of prosperity and peace when he got interrupted by God.
Gen 21:33-34 Abraham had just obtained a well, from which to drink from. Next we see, he planted a grove, meaning an orchard or cultivated field and called on the name of the Lord. Planting an orchard of trees takes some time. Abraham was planning to be here awhile. In v34 it tells us, Abraham was there for many days. Working the fields, worshipping God, he had his new son Isaac, God was good to him. Enjoying life.

Then in Gen 22, we read that God interrupts Abraham’s life of prosperity and peace with a huge test. Get up and go to the mountain. Leave the peaceful orchards behind and take your son, your only son, and sacrifice him to me. What is going on?

We don’t mind when God asks us for 1$ when we have $1000. We don’t mind when God asks us for 1 lamb when we have 1000 lambs. But God, not that, not my favorite thing in life. I can’t give that up. Not my ONLY son, I only have one. Yes, That’s what God wants. God wants your heart. Are you willing to pay the price to worship the Lord and experience God in a way that you will never forget and neither will God. God said, Abraham, NOW I know...because you did not withhold your Only son from me.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, THINK ON THESE THINGS! Philippians 4:8
