A STAR THEY HAVE NOT SEEN

B.R.Numbers 24:15-17

(Num 24:17)  I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.

When I read this verse of scripture I am forced to remember times in my life when I have been required to sit and to listen to a teacher or a lecturer giving out information about a period in history or a event of national importance or maybe even a subject of great interest to me, in a manner that seemed dry, staccato or plainly and simply put in a boring manner.

It was not that they did not have the knowledge necessary to instruct the class properly.  Facts they had aplenty.  But experience they had not.  They had not touched, tasted, smelt or seen the subject matter for themselves.

I am also reminded of times when a teacher, trainer or mentor started a lesson and from the beginning to the end the class sat enthralled by every word that proceeded from their mouth.  We sat hooked – captivated – transfixed upon the subject that was being presented.

What was it that made the difference?  Each teacher was equally knowledgeable about the subject that was presented; yet each class received the teaching in a very different way; but why?

Because one had merely learned the information, while the other had lived the information; the one spoke in a dead dry monotonous way, the other spoke with a fire in their eye and passion in their words.  Experience made the difference.

We live a day and time when people like Balaam have good information.  I mean look at Balaam’s information source.  It came from God, there is no better source.  There are many people that call themselves Christians that have the ability to speak on an intelligent level about the revealed Word of God!  They quote facts – figures – names and dates with no emotional attachment – no fire of conviction – no warmth of fondness.  It’s simply dead – dry – and unconvincing!!!!

Truth is still truth regardless of who speaks it – but truth can only reach the heart when it’s uttered by lips that are alive!!!!!

Isa 6:5  Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

Isaiah was in this same situation…… He had the right religion…  He had the right source for divine information – the scriptures… But he recognized that the spiritual light – the spiritual flame needed to make him an effective witness was missing.  Thank God for those who will admit their need.  They are the ones that will get Help.

Have you spoken of a star you have not seen?  John wrote “That which we have seen…declare I unto you”.  God raise up more witnesses with the experience to convince a dead world of the life that can be had in your fold.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, THINK ON THESE THINGS! Philippians 4:8
