“A WELL OF WATER FOR A THIRSTY LAND”

BIBLE READING :    (Isa 35:1 – 10)

(Isa 35:6 KJV)  "Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert."

Who hasn't at one time or another seen a depiction of a man lost and alone, crawling through a sun parched wilderness searching for water?  Maybe you've seen the old Abbott and Costello movie which depicted Costello chasing the Mirage diving face first into dry desert sand.

This world is a desert of sorts?  A place where people run from place to place jumping into relationships, plunging into debts, trying to find that well of water that will satisfy their soul – only to discover they're only mirages – optical illusions, fancies of the mind that did nothing to alleviate their problems but merely added saltwater answer when they need a freshwater cure.

Isaiah saw the day coming when the King Messiah would come.  A time when the dessert would bloom with the rose, when the parched ground would be turned into a  pool, a dry land into a pool (v. 7)

What a wonderful type God gives here, for the longing of a man’s heart can only truly be likened to a burning thirst; a thirst, which drives him or her ever onward, searching for satisfaction and fulfillment.

GOOD NEWS TO THE THIRSTY SOUL:

The desert here is representative of a thirsty dehydrated soul, longing for a taste of the water which can truly satisfy.  With this water the soul that was parched and perishing shall prosper and bloom.

Notice he said the rose will blossom.  It takes a great deal of water just to get a rose bush to live, even more to make it blossom.  The idea is in Christ there is enough water to bring to life and sustain even the most delicate of all souls!

So many perish for lack of water when all they have to do is simply ask:

That is good news!

In verse 3 and 4 we find the message we are to proclaim to this sin parched world:

(Isa 35:3 - 4 KJV)  "Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you."

God will come and save YOU!

No matter how spiritually dry you have been – When Jesus touches your life you will blossom and bloom!

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS GOOD NEWS:

Those that are fearful:  (Isa 35:4 KJV)  "...them that are of a fearful heart…"

The Blind:   (Isa 35:5 KJV)  "Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,

The Deaf: “…and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped."

The Lame:  (Isa 35:6 KJV)  "Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and

The Dumb:  the tongue of the dumb sing:

Yet there is one more benefit from this Good News:

The Land we call Home will be blessed

(Isa 35:7 KJV)  "And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes."

So where do we find this wonderful well amidst this dessert of life?

(John 6:35)  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Now that is truly a Well of Water for a Thirsty Land !

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, THINK ON THESE THINGS! Philippians 4:8
