As
tall as 120 feet or as short as field grass, there are
over 1000 species of bamboo. It has been
mankind’s friend for years on end. The tender
shoots are eaten and the larger species can be used as
posts to support your house. One interesting fact
is the bamboo flowers only once in it’s life, when it
is about to die. The same species across the globe
will flower at the same time, some at the end of 30
years, some 60 or even 120 years. The seeds fall
to the ground the old plant dies and hopefully a new
plant is birthed.
As
I read about the bamboo I thought about Christians and
the need to plant the next generation. If the old
generation dies out without those seeds being planted in
the hearts of the newer generation, what hope does the
world have?
Judges
2:7
(7)
And
the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and
all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had
seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for
Israel .
But
when the next generation arose, they soon departed from
the right way. Why? They hadn’t been
“Planted”. There were no seeds of
righteousness and godliness, the older generation died
off without infusing into the next generation a love for
God.
As
we meditate on God’s word and share it with others, He
said we would become like a “tree
planted by the rivers of water”
Psa. 1:2-3
May
we pass on to our children and the next generation a
reality in God. As the song says “May those that
come behind us find us faithful.”
