Binding
the Strong Man
Long
before the devil gets bound in Revelation 20:1-3, we find
Jesus talking about him being bound in Matthew 12:29.
A
dumb and blind man was healed by Jesus, as usual, there
were plenty to find fault with the good act of our Lord.
They accused him of casting out the devil by Beelzebub,
the prince of the devils. Jesus explained to them,
that if satan casts out satan his house can’t stand.
If you would take the goods of a strong man, you must
first bind the strong man. So Jesus was saying, He
had bound the strong man, the devil, and taken the goods
that once belonged to him, that man who was dumb and
blind.
What
a turn around! The devil had us bound by:
1. Fears
2. Doubts
3. Sins
But
now, Jesus binds him and sets the man free. We
become free by the blood of Jesus and we stay free by
pure righteous living. The moment we allow sin into
our lives, we create a foothold for the devil in our
life. That is why the writer enjoins us to
“Neither give place to the devil” Eph. 4:27
The
same spirit that bound that man and made him dumb (mute)
and blind, seeks to bind Christians and keep them from
telling others of Christ, and seeks to blind Christians
as to who they are in God. When Christ sets us
free, we will speak and see!
We
will tell the world of Christ, and we will see exactly
who we are in Jesus, sons of God and ambassadors of the
Gospel!
