COMPANIONS
Psalms 119:63 “I am a
companion of all that fear thee, and of them
that keep thy
precepts.”
In the above scripture we have a description of
God’s people and the relationships or companionships
that they develop and cultivate in this world.
Notice that the Psalmist points out two prevalent
characteristics that mark those people with whom
God’s children associate: Fear and Submission. Fear
is the tree submission is the fruit.
People that have been born again by the Blood of
Christ obey God in a conscientious manner out of
reverence (deep heart felt respect) to His majesty
and goodness and from a sense of regard for His will
as it has been made known in His Word.
Now, perhaps some would say that this is an Old
Testament reference and does not pertain to the New
Testament church. Well then let’s see…. Acts 10:35
gives us the same description “In every nation he
that feareth God and worketh righteousness is
accepted with Him”. It is a Holy respect and
reverence for God which awes the saints and which
constrains him by His love and causes an anxious
desire within the heart of the believer to want to
“please Him in all things”
These are the only kind of people that are fit to be
a Christian’s companions.
A companion is someone that I choose
to walk with and converse with in a way of
friendship. A person is known by the companions
he/she keeps, " Birds of a feather flock
together.".
Amos puts it this way (3:3) “Can two walk together
except they be agreed?” Before salvation our
conversation and manner of life was controlled by
sin and Satan. For this reason we were attracted
two like minded people – we sought their
company. But as “Born Again” believers the new
nature within us gives us new tastes and
desires. We seek new company delighting in the
saints of God.
Don’t be deceived. Young Christian’s especially fall into this trap. They
think that pleasantness equates to godliness. The
devil himself poses as an angel of light and
sometimes the wolf is disguised in sheep’s
clothing. Be sure that what draws you to someone
and makes you desire their companionship is their
love and likeness to Christ AND NOT THEIR LOVE
AND LIKENESS TO YOU!!!!
Stay away from people that are not awed by the fear
of God. Don’t be persuaded by the devil that you
are “Too established in the faith to be injured by
building friendships with worldly people. 1 Cor
15:33 “Be not deceived; evil communications corrupt
good manners”
