Homesick For Heaven
Homesick, that inner
aching to go back to a place we call home, yet many of
us have experienced the strange feeling of being away
from our childhood home for a long time, only to return
and find things are not the same. Maybe your family has
moved into a new house, old landmarks are missing, empty
lots have been built on, acquaintances have moved away
and you realize that you can never go back to the way it
once was, yet when you see the ones you love, you
understand, home is not a house, it’s a who. The people
that we love make the place special.
As Christians, we are
homesick for a place that we have never been before. We
don’t know what the house looks like. We can’t fully
imagine the neighborhood, we are homesick for heaven,
not the place, but the person, Jesus!
Perhaps that is what
prompted the Lord to take Enoch to heaven. We can
imagine the old gray haired man walking on the hill top,
his sandals wet from the early morning dew, anxious to
walk with God. “Lord, I don’t seem to fit in down
here. I long to spend more time with you, yet these
folks don’t seem to understand. Lord, take me home!
Let me walk with you in heaven. I’m homesick”
Gen 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for
God took him.
