What will you leave behind?
Psa 48:12 Walk about Zion , and go round about her:
tell the towers thereof.
Psa 48:13 Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her
palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation
following.
The Psalmist tells the readers to take a close look
at Zion , look at her towers, her defenses, think
about her palaces, all so that they could tell it to
the generation coming.
Why?
Would it be because these things would not be there
to look at when the next generation arose? All that
they would have is the descriptions given to them
from the memories of their fathers. It seems as if
he is warning them that it was going to be
destroyed. Look Closely! So that you can tell your
children and their children what it was like! That
is all that you will have to give them, a memory.
Remember how it was built and preserved.

-

- Solomon’s
wisdom (I Kings 4:29)
When you think about this warning for Israel and
Zion , how aptly it fits for us today. Look closely
at what we have. It is precious. A church built on
righteousness, holiness and brotherly love. God‘s
commands and standards given to us by men who have
walked with Him for many years. Yet it must be
prayed for, fought for, and we must keep working so
we have something to give the generations following,
an uncompromising, loving church and not just
memories.
How was it built?
-
On a foundation of Christ!
-
On a pastor’s vision!
-
A people’s prayers!
-
A congregation’s soulwinning efforts!
-
A church family’s unity!
-
Faith!
May
we work today to leave a legacy of righteousness and
not just memories of what once was. As the song
says “Oh may all who come behind us find us
faithful!”
