Setting it in Order
2Ki 20:1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah, came to him, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
You talk about a wake up call. Hezekiah, who at this time was about 38 years old, was told by the prophet Isaiah, Get your life straight, because you are going to die.
What is really interesting about this subject is that as you study the life of Hezekiah in 2 Kings 18- 20 and 2 Chronicles 29-32, Hezekiah was a man who was focused on bringing a spiritual revival back to Israel.
Prior to Hezekiah, his Father Ahaz had closed the church doors, the priests were out of a job, for there was no more worship of Jehovah. The worshipping of idols was once again common place and the land was in moral decay.
Then walks in Hezekiah. Ahaz his father dies and Hezekiah is the new king. King Hezekiah immediately went to work for the Lord.
Hezekiah broke the images of the idols
Reopened the church doors
Cleansed the Temple
Reinstituted the worship of Jehovah as God
Brought back the offering of the sacrifices for the atonement of sin
Hezekiah cleaned up the House of Israel.
So why does the Isaiah the prophet come to Hezekiah with a death sentence? Get your house in order, you are going to die.
Could it be that Hezekiah was so busy cleaning up Israel he had neglected his own life?
How about you Christian, have you been so busy serving others you have neglected your own soul?
Hezekiah, set YOUR house in order. It's great that you brought revival to Israel, but is there a revival in your own soul?
I still remember Rev. Olson teaching in Bible Seminary, God is more concerned with the minister than He is with his ministry.
The same could be said of the church member as well. God is more concerned with the servant than He is with your service.
Do as Hezekiah did, he turned to the wall and prayed. He took his eyes off of all the great works he had done for God and began to pray and meditate on the One he was serving and why he was serving.
God heard Hezekiah's prayer.
2Ki 20:4-5 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, Turn again, and tell Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee.
When you set your house in order, God will hear your prayer too.
