Who Are We Playing For?
In an earlier devotional, the story was told of a Joshua Bell the American master violinist who was playing in the foyer of a government building on a very rare and expensive Stradivarius violin. The Washington Post had orchestrated this to see if the beauty of the music would transcend the day to day hustle and bustle of rush hour, as you know, (since you read the devotional) it did not. Only a handful stopped to listen to the great musician, only a few recognized their awesome opportunity.
The story stuck with me and in a recent time of prayer I began to think of how this man was doing the right things, with the best equipment available (the Stradivarius) and yet few recognized his gift to them.
I started to think of how so many Christians and Pastors are in their place of duty. They are doing the right things, preaching, praying and working for the Lord, and yet often thousands pass by without recognizing their unique opportunity and God’s gift to them in these Christian workers’ witness to them. We may be pouring our heart into it, yet not as many as we would like take notice. Then I remembered, I am not “Playing” for the crowd, but for the Lord.
There is an unseen listener hearing the music of my soul that I make for Him. I will stay in my place of duty, doing the things I am supposed to, remembering who I am doing them for.
I am on the battlefield, FOR MY LORD!
